Principal's Message

Welcome to Haddam-Killingworth Middle School (HKMS), where every student is known, valued, and supported. Our middle school is a place where belonging is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that when students feel connected to their school community, they are better able to take risks, grow, and thrive - both academically and personally.

Strong, trusting relationships are at the heart of our school community. We are deeply committed to building meaningful connections between students and adults, as well as between our faculty and families. Through open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect, we work together to support students as they navigate these formative middle school years with confidence and curiosity. Beyond the classroom, our monthly town meetings, diverse clubs and sports, memorable trips, and engaging assemblies create opportunities for students to explore new interests, connect with peers, and be inspired to discover their passions.

Academically, we are proud to offer a rigorous and engaging curriculum that challenges students to think critically, explore creatively, and apply their learning in authentic ways. At the same time, we recognize that middle school is a time of significant growth and change. Our programs are designed to support the whole student - intellectually, socially, and emotionally - so that every learner can find success.
