Principal's Message

Welcome to Haddam-Killingworth Middle School, where relationships come first and every student is known, valued, and supported. We believe that strong, trusting connections among students, staff, and families form the foundation of a thriving school culture. When middle schoolers feel a genuine sense of belonging and know that adults care about them as unique individuals, they gain the confidence to embrace new challenges, discover their strengths, and reach their personalized goals.

Our daily work is grounded in the Cougar Core Values: Acceptance, Kindness, Perseverance, Respect, and Responsibility. We maintain high expectations for our entire school community, balancing rigorous standards with the emotional and social support students need during these transformative years. Together, we foster a positive, inclusive climate where character development goes hand-in-hand with student achievement.

Academically, HKMS is committed to high standards and an engaging curriculum that challenges students to think critically and apply their learning in authentic ways. Middle school is a time of rapid growth, and our programs are designed to meet the whole child - intellectually, socially, and emotionally - ensuring every learner experiences success and growth.

Beyond the classroom, we empower all Cougars to explore their interests, build community, and discover new passions through our diverse after-school clubs, student organizations, and athletic teams.
